Botox & Fillers

The popularity of botox injections, to iron out wrinkles on the forehead and around the lips, is rocketing to new heights. Botox (botulinim toxin) is the purified and diluted form of the Clostridium botulinum bacteria. The mechanism of action lies in its ability to relax the muscle that has been injected, resulting in the most youthful natural appearance.

The procedure is minimally invasive, safe, fast and virtually painless. Within two weeks muscle contraction is limited, which means the overlying skin smoothes over and wrinkles disappear. This is often termed as a "liquid facelift." The effects of Botox wear off after a few months, thus the treatment needs to be repeated every 4 months up to a point where the muscle relaxes without botox.

Two weeks after treatment, we offer our patients a follow-up appointment to monitor results and make alterations should it be needed. Furthermore, we offer individualized treatment plans for each individual, avoiding a mask-like appearance.

Botox can make you look younger and boost your confidence, as long as it looks natural and is in relation to the golden rule of aesthetics. We value this principle and will discuss treatment outcomes during the consultation.
At the Dental and Cosmetic Emporium we offer a wide variety of facial services. Transform the way you look by making use of our reasonably priced services. All procedures are non-invasive, fast, safe and comfortable with little or no down-time.

WHAT BOTOX IS

Botox is a muscle relaxant that is injected into the muscles or deep into the skin. It works by partially blocking the nerve impulses to any muscles that have been injected and reduces excessive contractions of these muscles.

WHAT BOTOX IS USED FOR

In adults, BOTOX is used to control the persistent muscle activity in the forehead causing lines and wrinkles in adults up until the age of 65.

How to use Botox

BOTOX must only be injected by a registered doctor with specific skills on how to use the medicine. BOTOX is of single patient use,   Which   should   be   mixed according to the package insert of the product for the correct effect.

BEFORE YOU USE BOTOX

Do not use BOTOX
•    If you know that you are allergic(hypersensitive) to Botulinum  toxin type A or any of the other ingredients of BOTOX;
•    If you have an infection or damaged skin like acne or swelling, redness or eczema at the proposed site of injection.

AFTER YOU HAVE BEEN GIVEN BOTOX
Contact your doctor and seek medical attention immediately if you experience any of the following: difficulty in breathing, swallowing, or speaking;   hives, swelling including swelling of the face or throat, wheezing, feeling faint and   shortness   of   breath   (possible symptoms of severe allergic reaction).

PRECARE (before treatment)
One week prior to your BOTOX treatment we advise you  to avoid using alcohol, garlic, lidocaine and aspirin, or any other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs for pain, swelling and/ or fever, such as medicines containing diclofenac, mefenamic acid, indometacin or ibuprofen- ask your doctor or pharmacist for list of products within these categories if you are not sure. This will reduce the risk of bruising or bleeding at the point of injection.
If this is your first visit, you will need to provide your medical history and any current problems, as well as details of any   allergies   you have    or medications you are taking. There is no need for an allergy test, unless your medical practitioner feels it’s necessary.

POSTCARE (after treatment)
The aesthetic effects of   BOTOX last   for   an   average   of 3-4 months but will vary depending on the condition of the skin, area treated, amount of product injected, injection technique and lifestyle factors such as sun exposure and smoking. Results of your treatment may take up to 14 days to take  full effect.
After treatment:
•    For 4 hours- do not lie down or do “strenuous” exercise and similar activities, nor should you do anything that increases the blood flow to the injection area
•    For 12 hours- avoid extreme facial expressions, alcohol consumption, and applying make-up
•    For 24 hours- do not rub or massage the treated areas as this could influence the effect of the product
•    For 2 weeks- avoid direct sun exposure, UV light, freezing temperatures and saunas
Tiny bumps or marks will go away within a few hours after your treatment.

Tell your doctor if:

•    You are using any  antibiotics (used to treat infections) or muscle relaxants. Some of these medicines may increase the effect of BOTOX.
•    You have recently (i.e. within the last 3 months) been injected with a medicine containing Botulinum toxin   (the active substance of BOTOX), as this may increase the effect of BOTOX too much.

PREGNANCY AND BREAST FEEDING
BOTOX should not be used during pregnancy or breast feeding. If you are pregnant or breast –feeding your baby while using this medicine, please consult your doctor, pharmacist or other health care professional for advice.

Fillers, often in combination with botox, have revolutionized the entire cosmetic industry. Not only will a filler smoothen a wrinkle, it will also add volume, creating a youthful appearance.

Fillers can be used to plump your lips, giving you the desired smile that you have always dreamt of. It is also a popular treatment option to smoothen out deep frown lines, or deep naso-labial folds.
We use Hyaluronic acid (HA), as a filler, because it is biodegradable, safe and has the outstanding ability to look natural and beautiful. It also holds the promise to replace those laugh lines and angry wrinkles with smiles.
